How Else Can Playing The Violin Benefit Me?

Music has many benefits, ranging from the joy of playing to increasing your cognitive ability (memory), hand-eye coordination, aural skills, fine motor skills and dexterity. Many students learn an instrument for personal enjoyment but find it boosts their confidence and self-esteem, creating a sense of achievement and increasing self-discipline.

Knowing how to read music is an excellent skill, and many students hone their maths and counting skills as they better understand rhythm and musical beats. Playing violin has been reported to have many significant positive effects on the brain, including creating balance by bridging brain hemispheres.

It’s also been shown to impact blood pressure positively, stress levels, the immune system and the ageing process! Violin classes are also often a favourite choice for people with ADHD, as learning violin engages both hands and different areas of the brain, creating a unique type of focus. Most importantly, it’s beautiful to listen to and a skill to cherish.

Located in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs

We offer violin classes in Melbourne’s inner eastern suburbs of Malvern and Hawthorn, just a quick drive or public transport ride from Melbourne’s CBD.

  • Hilary Hahn
  • Jascha Heifetz
  • Janine Jansen

That’s just a few violin-playing musical geniuses who will hopefully inspire you to further your musical goals.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are on this page and inspired to learn piano, the answer is quite likely no! We work with many adults, some with no experience with any musical instrument. As long as you are willing to commit to learning and practising, nothing is stopping you from starting piano lessons. Our students range from children in their early ages right through to grandparents!

This depends on your goals and how quickly you wish to increase your skill levels. For a beginner just wanting to learn to play the violin, 15 minutes to an hour a day, most days of the week, is ample time for practice.

This time can be made up between lessons and also practice sessions. For those with performance goals, who wish to excel at playing sooner or have the time and desire to do so, daily practice of a few hours is not uncommon. Before starting violin lessons, we recommend speaking to your teacher about your goals and creating a realistic schedule to achieve them.

This depends on a few factors, but having more than one violin teacher has benefits and some challenges. Some people enjoy the different skills and perspectives of having different violin teachers. In contrast, others find it may complicate things if their two music teachers have very different teaching styles or methodologies.

Music education is a lifelong journey, and violin classes are no different. Each music school will have a variety of teachers from different backgrounds, which means that each violin lesson with a new teacher may be taught in a new way. It’s a personal choice that will vary on your learning goals and the teachers you have.

Absolutely, yes! We offer violin lessons in our two Melbourne locations that are three different lengths, which are 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 60 minutes. Not everyone has time to do longer lessons, and some people find 30 minutes is the perfect duration to absorb what is being taught.

Other students appreciate having longer lessons. Again, it’s a personal choice that will be made based on your learning goals, time available, budget and also the frequency of lessons. Chat with us if you are unsure which one is right for you. We also offer online classes via Zoom if you are unable to make it into the studio or want to save time commuting.

On top of private violin lessons, our two studios (based in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs of Malvern and Hawthorn) also offer singing lessons, guitar lessons, drum lessons and music production lessons. If you’d like to learn more than one instrument or have children wishing to learn different tools, chat with our Admin team about how we can make a timetable that works best for you.

We do! Event schedules will vary from term to term depending on your skill level and desire to perform. We have a vibrant community of musical professionals teaching at our music schools who can also keep you informed of other opportunities that may not be on our website. Please look at our website to see current and upcoming performance opportunities.

Piano lessons in Melbourne will vary depending on your chosen music school and the violin teachers you work with. As of 2024, our tuition fees are paid by term. Music lessons with Michael Avery will cost a little more than with other teachers, as the school brings a wealth of experience to their lessons.

30 minute lessons start from $65 per week, 45 minutes from $85 per week and 60 minutes from $105 per week.

We offer a $15 discount to family members enrolled in more than one class per week, which brings individual class rates down significantly.

We also offer your first 30-minute lesson free.
